Working during the pandemic was surely one of the most confusing and disorienting experiences regarding film-making I had.
As we learned about the confinement date in Romania two days before, we had to quickly organize ourselves in order to film, which we did. So we first filmed the time-lapse shot up on the hills the same day during the sunset, and we then have filmed the rest of the filming process the next day.
Then the directing and editing had to be done through calls using google meet. As for myself, I had to exercise my oral directing skills as I could not show the ideas I had in mind to my colleague Alex who would then make them a reality.
As we have put the filmed rushes together, we have seen that there were some shots that had to be retaken, such as the last one where the character hung himself, where I tried to retake it by myself, but this was unsuccessful; and there were some other shots that could not be taken alone and needed somebody to film, therefore we had to work with the materials we already had.
During our google meet calls, Alex did a screen sharing so I could remotely direct what had to be modified, but having a bit of lag between his screen and mine, and adding to that the usual lag Alex is used to have while using Adobe Premiere; the work was tough to visualize as a smooth and easy-going film, as we had to use our imagination to visualize the work as itself.
But overall, it was a resourceful experience, where we could individually sharpen our skills.
